Meet Maria
From a young age, creativity has been Maria's compass. Growing up with ADHD meant her path was anything but conventional, leading her through diverse worlds, from acting and dancing to journalism and marketing.
Now, Maria channels that boundless energy into writing, where her passion, curiosity, and imagination converge to bring magical tales to life. Each story she creates is a testament to the vibrant, ever-evolving journey of a storyteller who embraces every twist and turn along the way.
Once Upon A Time…
Born in Porto, Portugal, Maria was the 'weird kid' who could perform any scene from a Disney or Spielberg movie on command. Her passion for acting led her to Drama School in 2004, where she immersed herself in Contemporary Theatre, graduating in 2007.
Maria's journey took her through the worlds of theatre and dance, performing across Portugal, gracing TV screens, and teaching in her own studio in Porto. But her heart longed for a grander adventure. So, on a whim, she transformed a one-week holiday in London into a new life—though not without its trials. Mugged upon arrival and left with nothing, she found herself alone and working in a coffee shop kitchen, her dream feeling distant but never extinguished.
Over time, Maria rebuilt her life in London, making connections with those who believed in her dreams. By 2015, she published her first comic book and began attending conventions and book launches. Despite its commercial struggle and her subsequent loss of motivation, she didn't give up. She shifted to freelance movie journalism, covering film festivals and interviewing industry figures for Cinema Planet, which rekindled her creative spark..
In 2018, a tarot reading suggested she was a square peg trying to fit into a round hole, encouraging her to explore self-employment in a creative field. Although hesitant, she eventually took the leap, leaving her roles in retail and journalism behind.
By late 2019, Maria found a new path as a Social Media Manager, quickly advancing to Marketing Lead. Her continued education in business and marketing opened doors to freelancing, supporting small businesses and fellow creatives. Yet, her dormant dream of writing remained, waiting for the right moment.
In early 2021, Maria embraced a new chapter and stepped into the role of a full-time writer. She began creating the magical universe that would become home to her stories—starting with the Little Friendly Witches children's book collection. She's launching the first book of the collection soon, while secretly working on new projects she's not quite ready to unveil. Each story adds another layer to the enchanted world she's building
Looking back, she sees how embracing change and pursuing your passions can lead to magical outcomes. That tarot reader's wisdom proved true after all.
